
She had loved him once, but soon began to fear him coming home; his temper and seemed to get worse after he’d begun drinking. She did everything she could to keep her three young boys safe from their father, but it wasn’t always enough.
Then she met her new neighbor. He lived in the apartment above hers and had told her he was aware of the abuse she went through by her husband’s hands.

Graysen was new to the neighborhood, but he’d already learned of the war widows in the area and was doing his best to help them. He was a Naval Engineer and made extra money boxing on the side; he made more than enough money for his needs.
After returning home one day, he stopped a few young boys from running amuck through the small lobby. And that’s when he met his new neighbor, Elizabeth. The young mother’s plight kept him up at night, and his protective instincts soon kicked in, especially after he noticed a dark stranger’s interest in her.
Then one night after returning from a boxing match, injured and bleeding, Elizabeth nursed his wounds. He was even more smitten by the young woman after stealing a kiss. He wanted Elizabeth for his own and kept an even closer watch over her and her young boys.
